We are humbled to present this sacred original painting of St Benedict of Nursia, prayerfully created by artist John Grimer.
Painted in rich acrylics on a framed wood panel, the work depicts St Benedict in a black monastic hood, his grey beard flowing, and his gaze set with quiet resolve. In his right hand he holds a red-bound copy of the Rule marked with a cross, while his left hand holds a crozier topped with a small cross, symbolising his role as abbot and shepherd of souls.
The portrait is framed with deep blue and gold borders, adorned at the top and bottom with traditional Benedictine imagery: the figure of St Benedict with the Latin motto “Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur” (“May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death”) above, and the Medal of St Benedict below, bearing its sacred inscriptions of prayer and protection.
